(CIC region: Americas)
staff: 3 Canadian based / 11 local staff

The mission in Guatemala City is responsible for all countries of Central America and local CIC officers spent a lot of time travelling the territory for interviews. The office in Guatemala City is extremely slow and it can often take between 1 and 2 years, which is more than double the CIC average, to get a spousal sponsorship application processed.

The mission in Hong Kong is one of the largest CIC offices outside of Canada. The office processes applications from Hong Kong, and the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian as well as the autonomes region of Guangxi Zhuang. The majority of applications processed are in the family class category and processing in Hong Kong is extremely slow due to a high volume of interviews with applicants.

Even though the Canadian High Commission in Islamabad is one of the larger CIC offices, processing times are well below the average and only Colombo, Sri Lanka is slower in the Asia / Pacific region. The mission sees security issues and difficult working conditions as a main reason for slow processing.

The visa office in Kiev only processes applications from Ukraine. Even though it seems to be well staffed, the office can obviously not cope with the large amount of application, making the Kiev office the second slowest office in the Europe region with only Berlin, Germany posting slower processing times.

The office in Kingston processes applications from Jamaica, the Bahamas, Cayman Islands as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands. With a staff of 25 people in the Immigration division and a small territory served, one would expect a speedy process of applications; instead the Kingston office is well bellow average.
